About Us

Our Approach

“My vision” is that every person should have a one of a kind, hand crafted piece of art work in their home depicting their heritage and pride.

I approach each piece as an individual piece and each piece is a signed, certified, and one of a kind. I work hand in hand with each customer until the work is exactly what the customer envisions.

Our Story

Kanut Wood Creations is a result of my passion for wood working and Viking art.

I began with the idea that I wanted a Viking shield in my home, but after searching the internet I was only able to find cheap plywood shields–some of which was very expensive and intended for use in a SCA or reenactment forum. So the idea struck me that I would make my own. Once Derki’s Watch was born the reactions and praise for the craftsmanship was over whelming.

So the idea was born that I could offer this service to others. That every person should have the option to have a one of a kind, hand crafted piece of art work in their home depicting their heritage and pride.

We currently and primarily design and build home decor Viking shields. With the addition of some new tools to the arsenal, we will be expanding our offerings to include many more products very soon.

Kanut Wood Creations only designs and carves one Viking shield at a time on a commission basis. Please contact us or check out or Services tab for more information. You can also find and follow us on Facebook.

Meet the Artist

Bobby Curnutte

Owner and Artisan

Bobby is an American born artist that was conceived during  the “summer of love” in 1967. He came forth kicking and screaming during the cold winter of Toledo, Ohio. He was then relocated as a young child to Texas where he stayed for most of his youth. He is a retired and disabled veteran of the United States Army where he served in 4 separate combat theaters. He has lived and traveled all over the world, visiting more than 20 countries. He currently has made his “Bu” in Alabama USA.

He has always had an interest in the Viking/Norse culture and finds himself drawn to it on a daily basis. The Curnutte name is an Americanized version of the anglicized Cnut or Canute which derives from the name Kanut (Norwegian and Swedish). Kanut is derived from the Old Norse Knútr meaning “knot”.

He uses this name Kanut for this site and his wood working shop as a fitting nod to the Norse heritage that still calls from a distant past.
